What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only permanent – and FDA approved – hair removal solution for every body, regardless of hair type or texture, skin color or texture, gender, or hair there…
Electrolysis safely and permanently removes all types of hair from all skin tones. Compared to other hair removal options electrolysis stakes its claim with universal acceptability and success. Say no more to temporary hair removal and reduction with a permanent alternative to lifetime maintenance. Electrolysis permanently destroys the growth cells of the hair follicle, preventing treated hairs from growing back. Other methods focus on immediate, but temporary, hair removal – visible hair, or hair that’s inside the follicle but has not yet emerged. None of them deliver the permanence of electrolysis.
Electrolysis treatment consists of a professional electrologist inserting a very fine probe (typically thinner than the hair being treated) into the natural opening of the hair follicle alongside the hair shaft. A tiny amount of electrical current is applied to destroy the hair growth cells.
Based on a personal and confidential consultation, Steadfast Electrolysis will design a treatment plan that addresses your specific hair removal needs.

Meet the Founder
Hi all!
My name is Jim Cromeans and I’m a certified electrologist living and working in Tyler, Texas.
My passion for helping people become more confident and comfortable in their bodies started because of my life partner, Nikki, and her journey living with PCOS. This syndrome comes with a lot of side effects that weighed heavy on her, and it broke my heart to see the most beautiful person I know, struggle with her self-confidence. When we found a local, caring, kind, and inclusive electrologist in our area, it was a gift beyond imagining. I loved seeing the confidence my queen moved through the world with after each treatment. Being able to seek treatment my partner needed without having to spend extra money on gas driving outside of Tyler was an added blessing.
When we learned that our electrologist, Susan Hanson was looking to retire, we were devastated. However, having gotten to know me and my partner so closely over the years, Susan offered to personally train me so that I could continue to give my partner the quality of care and confidence she deserved.
I continued my training working with internationally renowned electrologist Alana Dzurek (CEO/Founder of Beverly Hills Hair Free and master of the 32-probe system) and completing a 200hr Master Class. Now, with my partner’s encouragement, I am excited to help others in our community, just as Susan did for us. When you walk through the doors of Steadfast Electrolysis you are walking into a safe space filled with sincere care and concern for you and your body’s unique needs. We are an inclusive space for all genders and pride ourselves in being an LGBTQ+-affirming facility. I hope you find all the information and reassurance you need as you explore the site and our various services.

About Malea Fennel
Hey Y’all!
I’m a licensed esthetician and electrologist! My journey into skincare and permanent hair removal started with a deep love for science. I began my education at Tyler Junior College, where I graduated with my associates of art with a focus on biology. That curiosity grew into a passion for skin, which led me to esthetics school.
I attended The Salon Professional Academy in Whitehouse, completing 750 hours of esthetics training. I loved every part of it, from giving relaxing facials with soothing scents and massage to the energy of waxing services. The experience taught me independence, resilience, and how much joy comes from helping people feel confident in their skin. I also volunteered doing prom makeup for underprivileged teens, which reminded me how meaningful this work can be. I graduated with honors, passed both my written and practical exams, and was officially licensed with a deep love for this field.
At Steadfast Electrolysis, I’m continuing my training in electrolysis. I’m passionate about helping clients reach their goals with care, precision, and empathy. Whether it’s removing unwanted facial hair or treating larger body areas, my goal is to make every treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. Many clients come to electrolysis after trying everything else, watching their self-esteem grow as they start to see permanent results reminds me why I chose this career. Every person’s journey to smooth skin is different, and I love being part of that transformation.
Beyond technique, I believe in creating a space that feels calm, welcoming, and judgment-free. Permanent hair removal can be a deeply personal experience, and I want every client to feel seen, supported, and cared for. My approach combines science-based methods with a genuine love for people and results.
When I’m not in the studio, I’m continuing to study new electrolysis techniques, deepen my skincare knowledge, and spend time with my wife and animals. I love learning, as I grow in my training and experience, I’m excited to keep helping clients achieve smooth, confident, hair-free skin, permanently and can’t wait to meet y’all!

Frequently Asked Questions
About Electrolysis
-
We offer a range of solutions designed to meet your needs—whether you're just getting started or scaling something bigger. Everything is tailored to help you move forward with clarity and confidence .Modern medical electrolysis devices can destroy the hair growth cells with chemical energy, heat energy, or combination. The method chosen by the electrolysis is the modality. All are effective, and deliver permanent results.
The three modalities in current use are:
GALVANIC ELECTROLYSIS
A current is used to produce a chemical reaction within the hair follicle, eliminating the hair growth cells.THERMOLYSIS (SHORT-WAVE)
Heat destroys the hair growth cells in the follicle. A higher intensity current can be applied for less time in the follicle, or the current can be used at a lower intensity with longer timing.COMBINATION
The combination method blends galvanic current with thermolysis current. Thermolysis heats up the chemical reaction in the follicle, destroying the hair growth cells.
During treatment, you may feel a momentary heat sensation or pinch, but you should not feel the insertion of the probe into the hair follicle, nor should you feel like the hair is being pulled out when it is removed; the hair will usually slide out of the follicle when properly treated. Discomfort is minimal for most people, but individual tolerances vary greatly. Keep in mind that some areas of the body are much less sensitive than others.
-
INDIVIDUAL TREATMENTS
Depending on the area you want cleared, a treatment could be between a few minutes for a follow-up appointment, to an hour for a larger area.OVERALL TREATMENT
Most people who follow the recommended treatment plan can expect to be done or nearly done within 18 months.
Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quantity and structure of hair presented, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medications and stress influence the treatment program for each individual.
-
Excessive or unwanted hair can range from fine, vellus hair to dark, coarse hair anywhere on the body. Breaking down the hair growth cells on deeper, more coarse hairs may require more than one treatment. Based on a personal and confidential consultation, Steadfast Electrolysis will design a treatment plan that addresses hair removal needs specific to your case.
Some of the factors affecting the amount of time it will take to clear an area include:
Which you want removed first and from where
Hair follicles per inch
Pain tolerance
Depth of hair follicles
Hormonal imbalances/changes and conditions such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
Testosterone treatments
Medications such as birth control pills (often have more estrogen) and androgen blockers such as Spironolactone and Finasteride (help to block the androgens from activating the hair). *Note: once these medications are discontinued, the hair may grow again.
The key to minimizing treatment time is to maintain a strict schedule, especially, in the beginning when you have more hair cycling. With continued treatment, your cycles will slow down as will your appointments until you only need to come in to treat the occasional hair as your hormones change.
This is only a estimate and varies from person to person depending on their genetics, hormones, medications, hair density, etc.
-
Yes!
The electrolysis treatment occurs within a natural opening and under the skin (hair follicle) and will not disturb your tattoo art! -
Regardless of which electrolysis modality is being used, the client will feel a sensation. Depending on the area being treated, the sensation is less than many other methods of hair removal, such as tweezing, waxing or laser. Clients may even fall asleep during treatment.
Several factors determine treatment sensitivity:
Pain tolerance:
It varies from person to person.Treatment area location:
Upper lips and toes are generally more sensitive than shoulders and chins. If a hair follicle is located near a nerve, there will be more sensation.Type of electrolysis modality used
Galvanic or blend is slower but very effective. Thermolysis cause less sensitivity.Has the client consumed alcohol or caffeine recently?
Alcohol is dehydrating and lower moisture levels in the skin make the treatment more sensitive. Caffeine wakes up the nerve endings making the treatment more sensitive.Menstrual periods:
Treatment is generally more sensitive during this time.Topical anesthetics:
can temporarily reduce the sensation of treatment. There are now over-the-counter medications that have 5% lidocaine. Stronger anesthetic creams are available by prescription. These creams are typically applied 45 to 60 minutes before treatment. It is important to read the directions and use care with these creams. For example, lidocaine can affect the heart if too much is applied. If you are tense or stressed:
you will probably experience more pain sensation. It helps to be relaxed prior to treatment. Lack of sleep may also be a contributor.Endorphins:
By the third or fourth visit, clients seem to develop a greater tolerance to the treatment, probably due to the body’s production of endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s natural painkillers. Also, when working on the same area for a while the nerves get tired of sending pain signals to the brain, so the treatment is more tolerable. This is observed when taking a hot bath…at first the water is scalding but five minutes later you are adding more hot water.
-
Electrolysis breaks down some of the cells at the base of the hair, including the dermal papilla. When the cell walls are destroyed, fluid is released under the skin. This is called edema, and it causes a small bump on the surface of the skin, much like a mosquito bite. There is also some redness. These effects will disappear.
A procedure called cataphoresis can help to relieve the redness by neutralizing the Ph and constricting the blood vessels. Ice can be applied after to continue constricting the blood vessels which helps the skin by reducing swelling and alleviating the histamine reaction.
Since the electrolysis treatment is kept below the surface of the skin, there should be no long- term effects of treatment. Please seek qualified electrologists to perform your treatment. Skin may be damaged if electrologists are inexperienced or not trained properly.
-
Compared to the expense of a lifetime of shaving, depilatories, or laser treatments, the permanence of electrolysis makes it a wise investment.
Electrolysis cost compares very favorably to other hair removal methods, including laser hair removal.
Final investment amount depends on a number of factors including:
How much hair needs to be removed
The size of the area being treated
Where you get your services performed
The number of sessions necessary. Many factors determine how many sessions are needed:
The amount of hair
Genetics
Hormones
Nutrition and health of the individual
Methods used for dealing with the hair before treatment
The same factors impact how often sessions should be scheduled throughout your custom treatment plan. For example, treatments for areas that have been waxed or tweezed would be more frequent than for areas that have been shaved.
Overall, the length and frequency of your appointments depends mostly on the size of the area being cleared. Electrolysis treatments are longest and most frequent at the beginning, but both treatment length and frequency taper off as fewer and fewer hairs remain to be treated.
Steadfast Electrolysis charges an $85 hourly rate; offers a FREE 15 minute consultation; and requires a non-refundable (but transferrable) deposit of 50% treatment cost.
